53-year-old woman beaten, raped at her home
MANDEVILLE, La. —
Mandeville police are looking for a man who beat and raped a 53-year-old woman early Saturday morning in Mandeville.
Mandeville police said the rape was reported around 6:30 a.m. when officers were notified about a rape victim at a hospital.
The victim told investigators the rape happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday at her home in the 2000 block of Monroe Street.
She said she was asleep on her living room sofa when she woke up to a man standing over her, rubbing her body, police said. She said a physical confrontation occurred and she was overpowered by the man.
The victim told officers that she was beaten and raped for an extended period of time, police said. Before he left, the victim said the man took her ID and threatened to kill her if she told police about the rape.
Mandeville police are investigating the rape with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, which conducted a forensic examination of the victim. Detectives also processed the scene where the rape occurred.
Investigators said the man is 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds and has a lean build. He was last seen wearing a horizontal brown-striped crew neck T-shirt, knee-length grey shorts, black ankle socks and tan tennis shoes.
Officers said the man had an oval tattoo on his calf, which was approximately four inches with an unknown image. The man might have fingernail scratch marks around his face, neck and head.
Additional details about the investigation were not released. The man is being sought on aggravated burglary, attempted first-degree murder and first-degree rape charges.
